Day 24 - 19 September 2012

I woke up, wide awake, at 0415 this morning. Not really sure how, as I didn't go to bed until around 0030 (or perhaps a little later). I jumped up and was going trying to rush around to get ready and then it dawned on me...Meagan has dance class and won't be home until later. So, it gave me a little time to get some things together for another try at getting out of here today.

Walked over to the terminal to talk to Meagan and the kiddos. On the way, I stopped to see if there were any other flights today, as last night's schedule had no seats. Sure enough, there is one later this morning, so I am going to try catching that one.

Emma and Taylor talked a little more today. Emma, my little princess, was all smiles. Meagan showed me her Cleo attack wounds...OUCH! I certainly hope it doesn't get infected. Meagan cleaned it with peroxide, so that should help. Taylor told me about school and then sent me audible upon audible over messenger. Even though he didn't really say much, it was great to see him smiling and having some fun with me! Meagan told me that his grades should come home tomorrow and we are not anticipating a good grade in Language Arts and, I believe, spelling. I can't remember if they are, perhaps, the same. After hearing what she told me, I think something needs to happen. Taylor goes to his gifted classes and then misses when they work on the areas he is struggling in. How can you do that to a second grader?!? And, on top of that, his teacher seems poor about ensuring information, such as tests, makes it home. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for responsibility, but some of that falls on the teacher's shoulders! Ok...rant off.

Went back to the room to nap before getting up and trying to get on a flight. Unfortunately, I wake up until just after 1100, so I didn't have time to get my laundry dropped of today. However, it is ready to go when I get back. I should have enough socks and underwear to last me until I get back, get it dropped off, and get it back a few days later.

Made it to the terminal in time and I HAVE A FLIGHT! :) I have been trying for three days now to catch a flight to go perform some tests on one of our systems, but we were bumped off on Monday and everything to that site was cancelled yesterday. I'm just finally happy to be moving today! We have to wait a LONG time in the terminal though, so here I am, blogging away. I'm trying to hold off sending Meagan a text as long as I can. I don't want to wake her up if I don't have to...

So, I never got a chance to text Meagan to let her know I was leaving, but just got over here to the MWR. The flight was, well, rocky! A LOT of turbulence over the mountains, but we made it ok. I was hoping to use my ninja skills to swoop in, get the job done, and leave without skipping a beat...but, the system I'm troubleshooting has other plans. It's been running like a champ since I restarted it, so I'm still waiting for it to err out.

Sharana, Afghanistan
Dinner wasn't too bad here. I had a chicken sandwich that had pizza sauce (I think) and cheese, fries, and macaroni salad. It was a pretty good dinner! It's nice and quiet here. I took a picture of the sunset, but I'll have to add it later, as I don't have wireless in this exact spot. I haven't been to my "room" yet, but I know they have WiFi over there. The sunset on the way to dinner was amazing! The sun was just a HUGE ball of fire dropping behind the mountains. I had to take a pic!

Hung out at the office here for a while, just waiting to get this error message I'm supposed to troubleshoot. At about 2245, no error, but began troubleshooting no data flowing back to the states. We traced the network wire and discovered an error at the switch. Now that we have a culprit, I'm done for the day and headed to my "room" for the night.

Got to my "room" at about 0030, tired as can be, and still have to make my bed. Sent Meagan a text that I was going to try my hardest to get up in the morning. Finished making the bed, so time to try for some sleep. Night all...God bless!

P.S. I'll update this post with some pics when I get back "home" to my normal room. Check back!
