Day 15 - 10 September 2012

Up at 0430 this morning, or thereabouts, to talk to Meagan and the kiddos. After the kiddos went to bed, we talked a bit, but also spent a lot of time just sitting there. Although there was silence, it was nice just to see her sitting there.

I watched the Broncos/Steelers game on AFN. I am in no way a Broncos fan, but it was nice to see Peyton Manning so well after being shunned by the Colts. I headed back to my room for a nap when there was just under two minutes left in the game.

Went to lunch and had chicken, corn, rice, and hushpuppies. It was a pretty good meal! I haven't really had an awful one yet.

Found out I'm leaving on my first mission this evening. The nerves are kicking in. You kinda think to yourself, "Holy shit, people out there want to kill me." I'm hoping this trip will calm those nerves next time. Of course, we will see... Now, I have to go pack for the trip...

Got all packed; enough for a week. Don't know how long we'll be gone, but it doesn't really matter to me.

Got on the helo and in mid-flight right now. Afghanistan is such a beautiful, but baron, country! It's sad that there is a war going on. The mountainous terrain, at least to me, is breathtaking...

Strapped in and ready to roll!
We got to our final stop ok, but found out we may not get to the next one for a few days...maybe earlier, if we're lucky. It's ok though...this is comparable to a weekend!

Chillin'
We went to dinner after we arrived. Certainly can't complain about corned beef and potatoes! After dinner, we went to the coffee shop, played a game of Clue, a few games of pool, then chilled in a lounge area for a while. Strange that this trip is somewhat relaxing...

Ok, off to bed. Going to try getting up and talking to Meagan and the kids in the morning! Night all...
